Rye Sea Cadets have just completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s expedition. Their method of transport – stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and the first expedition of its kind for the 400 plus units that comprise the Sea Cadet Corps. The expedition saw Rye cadets paddle 30km in two days from Lechlade to Oxford, all whilst carrying their kit! The aim of their expedition, to create a promotional film to show the other 16,000 UK Sea Cadets. So lots of film and pictures were taken.
Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Steve Smith, Rye Unit’s Officer in Charge, said : What an amazing opportunity and experience for our young people, and to be the trailblazers for a new discipline within the Duke of Edinburgh’s Scheme and the Sea Cadets makes it even more rewarding. A big thank you to Cliff Meaden and Suzie Faulkner, Rye Unit’s Instructors for making this happen.”
The Sea Cadets is a nationwide uniformed youth organisation for boys and girls. Junior Sections start from the ages of 10 to 12 and the Senior Section starts from 12 to 18 years of age. Rye Sea Cadets meet twice a week, on Mondays 6.50 – 9pm for seniors and Fridays 6.50 – 9pm juniors and seniors and their HQ is located in Rock Channel.
