White squirrel in Icklesham

I had noticed the little creature before, usually scrambling through the tree canopy that borders the garden here in Icklesham, but always too far away for a good photo opportunity.

But, today, whether it was the overnight rain or just relief at the cool temperatures, it ventured down to feed at the peanut feeder – and, with camera whipped out of its cover, I managed to capture it on film.

I can’t be sure if it is just an albino or one of those supposedly rare grey squirrels suffering from leucism – a mutated gene which turns them white but keeps their eyes black. Whichever it is, it is exceedingly pretty and appealing!
