Hundreds of people turned out on a beautiful sunny day for the hosting of the Winchelsea Fete and Dog Show on Saturday August 12.
Winchelsea New Hall and its cricket field were surrounded by stalls, ranging from tombolas and raffles to locally crafted jewellery and pottery. You could also buy all manner of locally produced ice creams, cakes, jams and chutneys.
Traditional games, such as Bash the Rat and the coconut shy, were popular but the stand-out entertainment was the Mediaeval Fayre’s mediaeval fruit machine (pictured) – where three local “wenches” raised random fruit in unison in the hope that the three match.
The centre piece of the day was the Wagging Tails dog show. Dogs of every type and description were judged in a range of categories, such as best rescue dog and the dog with the waggiest tail. Daisy May, (pictured) a large Newfoundland dog, stole the show and the title best working dog.
Music played all afternoon courtesy of the Battle town band (main picture). The £1 entrance fee taken at the gate will be used to support local charities such ARRCC, which provides care and support to physically and sensory impaired adults. In addition, Medieval Fayre were raising money for the Conquest Hospital’s MRI scanner appeal.
