When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. Starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hal,l Tiffany Haddish and Larenz Tat.

A Ghost Story [12A] 92 mins
Acclaimed director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) returns with an unforgettable meditation on love and grief. Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife, only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Starring David Lowery, Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara.

Final Portrait [15] 90 mins
Geoffrey Rush is superb as Alberto Giacometti, the famous artist, who bumps into his
old friend, the American critic James Lord, and begs him to sit for a portrait because he
has an interesting face. It’ll just take a couple of days in his studio. Lord is flattered by
the request but as the days go by and turn into weeks, seemingly with no end in sight,
he realises his entire life has been hijacked by this erratic genius. Directed by Stanley
Tucci, also starring Armie Hammer and Clemence Poesey.

Atomic blonde [15] 115 mins
Charlize Theron explodes onto the screen in Atomic Blonde, a breakneck action-thriller that follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors. A blistering blend of sleek action, gritty sexuality and dazzling style, Atomic Blonde is directed by David Leitch (John Wick) and stars David Leitch, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2D)[12A] 133 mins
After his adventures with the Avengers, Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark but he is distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

Dunkirk [12A] 106 mins
Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan’s spectacular Second World War drama told from three different perspectives – land, air and sea. In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance co-star, with Cillian Murphy, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and James D’Arcy.

Despicable Me 3 (2D) [U] 90 mins
The adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters and the Minions continue as they take on new villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who has grown up obsessed with the evil TV character he played in the 1980s who is out to take down Hollywood. With the voices of Steve Carell Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker and Julie Andrews.

and a notorious code breaker called Jail Break discover a great danger that could
threaten their phone’s very existence.

Jonas Kaufmann: My Italy  Thursday September 14 at 8pm
Jonas Kaufmann, the celebrated German tenor, presents his personal tribute to Italian music and culture in this special concert documentary film. Featuring songs from sold-out concerts in Turin and Milan, the star tenor’s stunning performances are interwoven with short films exploring his love of Italy, all set against a backdrop of breath-taking landscapes and evocative scenes of Italian life. Music includes popular and familiar songs such Parla Più Piano from The Godfather soundtrack, Caruso by Lucio Dalla, Volare, Lucevan le stelle from Tosca and Nessun Dorma from Turandot.

Royal Opera House Live: The Magic Flute, from Covent Garden, Wednesday September 20, 7:15pm 
Mozart’s glorious opera is brought enchantingly to life in David McVicar’s production with beautiful sets  by John Macfarlane. Conducted by Julia Jones and starring Mauro Peter, Siobhan Stagg and Roderick Williams.
