Coastal Currents Open Studios had a novel setting for arts and crafts down at Rye Harbour – in caravan B30 in the holiday park, owned by Louise Taylor. The “studio” caravan – which is open again this coming weekend, September 13-14, from 11am to 4pm – features textiles, pottery, paintings, photographs, jewellery, bags and many more crafts, including quilts by Hannah Andrews.
The standard of work was very high and colourful and imaginative and included work from nine craftspeople: Louise – dresses and hats; Hannah – quilts; Rachel – pottery and jams; Sandy – jewellery; Caroline – photographs and cards; Chrissy – knitted cushions and canvasses; Brenda – acrylics; Jane – poetry cards; and Patricia – pet portraits.
Festival note: There is a map of the holiday camp site, on the right by the Martello Tower as you go in, to help you find B30; the holiday park is at the far end of the road to Rye Harbour after it bends round to the right. Just before the turn, the Avocet Gallery on your right is exhibiting local artists’ work during the festival (Thursday – Sunday, 10.30am -5pm). If you turn left, the William the Conqueror pub features a free concert by the Hot Potatoes on Sunday September 14, from 3pm with Paul Minter (guitar and vocals), John Casey (bass) and Paul Cuffley (drums). So combine a crafty caravan with an arty avocet and rocking spuds on what is forecast to be a cloudy Sunday with possibly a shower around lunchtime.
