Gold warm-up for local racing

Showjumping competitions locally are usually fairly calm (but highly competitive) affairs, with nothing like a “bookie” in sight – and nothing like The Derby, or other popular horse racing events.
And one of the most popular races is this Friday’s (March 16) Cheltenham Gold Cup, at the end of the four-day horse racing festival. A popular favourite is Might Bite and the prize money for the winning horse is £625,000.
The Race Night in St Mary’s Centre (next to the Kino cinema in Lion Street) the following Friday March 23 may be a slightly quieter affair – but perhaps not. The first race is at 7:30pm and the last at 10pm so a number of races can be squeezed in.
Tickets are £5 as this is a fund raiser for local rural charity ROVTE.
Tickets can be bought from Fletchers, next to St Mary’s Church and the Kino cinema, or from Tracy on 07914 242167. Drinks and nibbles will be available.
Doors open at 7pm and the event ends at 11pm.
