Wherever local resident Ann Rachlin, the internationally popular recording artist and public speaker, creator of “Fun with Music”, was travelling round the world with her husband, the distinguished symphony conductor and pianist, the late Ezra Rachlin, her thoughts were always with her children back home.
Wherever she went, she always bought a doll in national dress to add to the ever-increasing display in her children’s playroom. These lovely dolls were not toys, but served to teach her young family about the countries she had visited.
This was in the 1950s and the collection, now wrapped in tissue and kept in archive boxes, boasts 59 vintage dolls, some of them rare and exquisitely made.
Now a great-grandmother, Ann thinks it is time to pass the collection on. Sadly, times have changed and the family do not seem to want them.
So Ann is looking for a collector who might be interested in purchasing the collection.
Ann, who founded the Beethoven Fund for Deaf Children and is now President of The Elizabeth Foundation for Deaf Children, will give the proceeds of the sale to the charity whose vital work concentrates on teaching sound awareness and the ability to communicate to deaf children from birth to five years old.
