A Great Escape to supper

Fancy a visit to a supper club once a month on a Friday locally? Boeuf bourguignon, chicken and  leek  pie, and panfried pork fillet with a tarragon and grain mustard sauce were on the menu on Friday, January 26, at the Great Escape, Rye Foreign. Formerly the Royal Oak, then the Oak and now the Great Escape, it is a bed and breakfast five minutes walk from Peasmarsh and two miles from Rye.

Bar and Dining room

Although no longer a pub, Carmen Kubisa, the licensee, is still cooking for special events and celebrations and (obviously) for the B&B. There was a Wassail Night recently, for example and Burns Night on January 27 was a sell out.
Good enough to eat!

This supper evening was the third one that had been held and the next one will be on February 23, with a different home cooked menu each time. Very competitively priced at £10 for one course and £13 for two, it was a really good night out.
I went to the one last Friday January 26, with a hungry grandson for company. He  had boeuf bourguignon, a good sized plateful and I had the pork fillet, which was delicious, with a wide range of vegetable accompaniments and dauphinoise potatoes. We followed it up with a lovely crisp topped crème brulee, from a choice of three puddings. Helped down with a glass of cold sauvignon blanc it was very pleasant indeed.
There were twenty people eating, from couples to a party of six, seated in the cosy main bar with an open fire in the inglenook to keep us all warm. It started at 7pm, but we were a bit late, which meant we missed out on the chicken and leek pie! We enjoyed the company and especially the food. Why not try it? Some seventeen of the diners are coming back in February, including us, a sure vote of confidence. To book, ring the Great Escape on 07794 493964
