This Sunday February 18, Sussex Wildlife Trust is putting on a free walk to Camber Castle with an opportunity to look inside. In addition to visiting Camber Castle the tour will also visit the bird watching hide overlooking Castle Water where, at this time of year, you should be able to see a number of waders and ducks and possibly Bittern and Marsh Harrier.
The walk will set-off at 1pm from Brede Lock on Harbour Road and will take an estimated three hours to complete.
Castle Water was originally a large gravel pit that was excavated between 1935 and 1970. Sussex Wildlife Trust bought the 88 hectares of land in 1992 and set about creating an area of freshwater and reedbed that is large enough to support a range of rare species such as Bearded Tit, Water Rail, Cettis Warbler and Water Vole.
For those of you who can’t make Sunday’s walk but would like to go inside Camber Castle, it is open to the public on the first Saturday of July, August, September and October at 2pm. Admission during the summer is £3 for adults (£1.50 concessions).
