It is always busy at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, especially at this time of year and here are a couple of the recent event highlights.
Setting off from the new temporary visitor centre, one of our regular health walks drew a group of 12 people and we enjoyed a wonderful walk around the Reserve in beautiful sunshine. Manager Barry Yates is pleased to be one of the leaders. Walks are led every Wednesday at 10.15am from the public conveniences at the end of Harbour Road. They last around an hour and they are free.
One of our other regular walks with a warden also drew a good crowd and we enjoyed wonderful views of sanderling in summer plumage. There were also many oohs and ahs when we saw some extremely cute avocet chicks. Most of our Warden Walks cost a donation only, so come along. All of our events are advertised in Rye News or at https://sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk/whatson.
A walk looking at shingle and birds coincided with a visit from Sussex Wildlife Trust staff. Teas, coffees and biscuits went down well on a beautiful sunny day and the shingle produced a stunning display of sea kale, yellow-horned poppies, salsify and some newly emerged bee-orchids (Source: RHNR).
