It’s an unusual approach: the life of Mason, from a boy of five to a young man of 18, filmed over 12 years with the same cast. Be warned: it’s 163 minutes long (2hrs 43mins), so come prepared when the movie is shown at the Rye Film Club, Friday December 5 (doors open 18:30). Boyhood (2014) is a highly acclaimed story of growing up seen through the eyes of a child. It charts childhood as no film has shown before. Showing snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduation and all the moments in between, the film is described as a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. Ellar Coltrane is Mason, Lorelei Linklater is his sister Samantha. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke are his parents. Click here to see a trailer.
