Rye Arts Festival runs from September 11 to 27, 2015 and offers 60 events with the classical music programme being the very heart of the Festival.
Classical music highlights include the welcome return of Euphonia Company, with a fully-staged production of Mozart’s deservedly popular Don Giovanni on September 12 and again on September 26. All the singers, and the musicians in the full orchestra, are young professionals so this is a must-see event. Currently, rehearsals are under way at a church in Woolwich, and it is sounding good. Very good!
Sandwiched between the opera performances are many fabulous concerts, including the amazing vocal talents of Stile Antico at Winchelsea Church on Tuesday September 22, the guitar playing of young maestro Manus Noble on September 14 and the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble on Sunday September 20 – playing medieval trumpets and trombones!
Pianist Angela Hewitt plays on Tuesday September 15, at the heart of a mini piano festival within the Festival. Other pianists playing include Alexander Panfilov, Peter Donohoe and Martin Roscoe.
And on September 24 the Belcea Quartet will be joined in their concert by the Piatti Quartet, whose international career has gone from strength to strength following their stint as Quartet in Residence at last year’s Festival.
