Work by Jill Stott, the late artist and author of the popular Fred the Fisherman children’s books, will be shown as part of the Ad Hoc Artists Show at Rye Art Gallery, writes Michael Stott. Visitors will be able to buy some of the later books from that series, as well as a wide variety of Stott’s original works, some of which have never been seen outside her studio. Her work is both humorous and clever and covers a wide variety of styles and mediums, from gouache paintings to hand-coloured etchings. She produced a prodigious amount and this show includes just a small part of her legacy. It runs from Nov 29 to Jan 4 at the gallery, 107 High Street, Rye TN31 7JE (01797 222433).
