The Rye Museum Association is holding its annual fundraising Garden Party in Rae Festing’s garden at 11 High Street on Saturday July 18 from 10am to 1pm and hopes for better weather than last year when rain forced it to move at the very last minute to the East Street premises. The garden party is likely to feature a coffee stall, baked goods and preserves, bric-a-brac and jewellery, garden produce, a “green” stall, plants, a tombola and books, as well as scarves, hats and handbags, On the Tuesday before, July 14, former Mayor Jo Kirkham will be talking about the “Huguenots in Rye and Winchelsea” at 2:30pm in East Street. Two other afternoon events include a children’s holiday activity afternoon between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday August 26 as well as a talk by Ann Oakley about “Vestments in miniature”, authentic replicas of clergy robes from the 12th century to the present day, which she has made.
