A very special concert of words and music will take place in St Michael’s Church, Playden next month on June 20 to help raise money for essential repairs to the roof of this beautiful twelfth century building. “Some Enchanted Evening” will feature songs from opera and musical theatre, bound together by a linking narrative given by rising young Hastings actor Alexander Hunt.
James Black who has devised the show told us, “This promises to be an enlarging, enlightening and entertaining evening. The programme features some lesser known pieces as well as old favourites and the audience will discover, and, hopefully, enjoy things they didn’t know, as well as revelling in well-known popular classics.”
The first half of the show will include music from Carmen, La Bohème and Tannhäuser, whilst the second half includes music from the Gilbert and Sullivan Savoy Operas as well as hits from Broadway. The line-up of professional singers includes soprano Sally Harrison, who appeared as Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera at London’s Her Majesty’s Theatre, and baritone Ross Ramgobin, who was recently shortlisted in the Young Singer category at the 2015 International Opera Awards.
Tickets, £15, are available from fopc@outlook.com, or by calling 01797 224606.
