The Fat Brass Marching Band

How did the name come about?
We were playing in a London pub, as an unnamed, unrehearsed group, and someone walked past and nodded, uttering the one word that would come to define us: “Fat”.

When did you start playing?
We met over the course of a couple of years playing in London, and formed pretty informally & haphazardly until we realised there was an audience for treating new pop tunes in the same way you’d treat standards on a jazz gig.

Where do you play?
All over, wherever will have us! We work with a lot of people to provide music for their events from Torquay to North Berwick, tailoring our sets to achieve exactly what they want.

Are you all friends or is it just a collection of great musicians?
First & foremost mates – secondly killing musicians with originality & individuality in their playing.

Have you any funny stories to tell of your playing together?
There was one time a bird flew down the sousaphone, followed by a lot of scrabbling & scratching before it found its way out. Fortunately, we hadn’t started playing, otherwise that bird would be seeking the help of an audiologist.
