Rye News will be relaunching

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Rye News team and help us take it to the next level in terms of sponsorship and marketing. Rye News was set up in 2014 and as a result of its success, we will be launching a new look site in the New Year.

We are looking for a volunteer with an understanding of advertising and marketing and/or a good networker who is confident on a computer.  This role is flexible and can be for a few hours a month or more.

The role will involve:

• Liaising with clients who are interested in placing an advertisement.  Requests usually come through emails, but we’d like it to be a more interactive role. There is scope to work more closely with the editorial team, and with potential advertisers and subscribers.
• Guiding clients on types of advertisement on offer, position and placement.
• Placing adverts on Rye News – this involves access to WordPress.
• Providing clients with statistics and dealing with renewals

Skills required

• A good networker and communicator.
• Some experience in marketing, particularly digital marketing, and advertising would be ideal.
• Confident with the use of computers – training would be given in how to place the advertisements but for anyone with good PC skills, this is not difficult.
• Time needed is flexible.  It may just be a few hours a month or could be a lot more but can be fitted in when it is convenient.
• Design skills aren’t necessary as Rye News doesn’t offer a design service, but clients might need some guidance on use of graphics and size.

Why Volunteer?

Rye News has a strong editorial team who meet regularly.  It isn’t essential to attend the meetings (usually a Tuesday evening around 6 pm) but it is a good way of getting involved in what is happening around the town.  There is also a small publishing and digital team who work alongside the editorial team.

Rye News is a successful online newspaper which provides a valuable service to the local community.  With the right volunteers we can make it even better.
