Rye Community Shop was buzzing with excitement on Friday January 29 in preparation for its official opening at its new site in Cinque Ports Street by local Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Amber Rudd.

It was difficult to tell though whether people had massed there in order to meet and greet the local MP (on right in photo above with red scarf) or to take advantage of the vast number of keenly priced bargains.

The shop is very much rooted in the community, supporting multiple local good causes with grant cheques raised by the shop’s sales.

Helpers are always welcome. Currently, opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30am-4pm, but from late February, the volunteers hope to open on Saturdays as well.
