Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a commercial post box in Rye Road, Rye Foreign, and another in Wittersham Road, Iden, were damaged. Locals told police that during the early hours of Sunday morning (November 2), they heard firework noises. Investigating officers found the front covers apparently vandalised and believe a banger or similar firework was put in each box. It is not known whether there was any post in the boxes.
Sergeant Warren Downs said: “We believe this is likely to be a stupid prank, rather than a series of attacks on post boxes. The fact remains that it is extremely dangerous to play with fireworks and there is a great risk attached to handling and using fireworks in the unintended way. As a result of this irresponsible use, property was damaged. We are working with local people to ascertain who is responsible for these acts, and we urge anyone who has any information on these offences to get in contact.”
