East Guldeford carols

St Mary’s Church, East Guldeford, held its carol service on Sunday, December 21, writes Sarah Cooper. The Rev Richard Dengate led the service and the Rye Singers performed Christmas music between the hymns and readings. The church was lit by candles – there is no electricity in the building – and the pews were full, as usual, for this popular event. St Mary’s is one of the 14 historic churches of Romney Marsh and the only one in East Sussex. Built in 1505, its square construction and open interior give it unusually fine acoustics – an excellent platform for the Singers!
