Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday June 2 to welcome 8,000 representatives of the Women’s Institute (WI) to celebrate the organisation’s centenary. Each WI branch was allowed to send one person to the event. Landgate WI n Rye picked Jeanette Denereaz to attend, who travelled up to London with colleagues from Playden, Iden and Pett. The ladies feasted on delicious miniature cakes and smoked salmon, egg and (of course) cucumber sandwiches to the sound of a military band. The Queen is the Honorary President of the WI, having joined in 1943, but was represented by her daughters-in-law on this occasion.
