Enough friends told me they didn’t sleep well in the early hours of Monday. The storms kept me awake, our reporter Charles Harkness emailed with unusual brevity from his sick bed. He, like the others, blamed thunder claps rolling around Rye and the marshes.
Our farming correspondent Simon Wright, of Lamb Farm, Folkestone Road, East Guldeford, saw something that brought home the power of lightning. In this case, though, it turned off power generation from one of the turbines at nearby Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm. The damaged turbine was clearly visible from the A259 – see photo below.
