Goals galore – in the wrong nets

Icklesham Casuals had an extremely disappointing weekend with both 1st and 2nd teams suffering heavy defeats at home and away respectively. The 1st team went down 6-1 at home to Hawkhurst United. The first half was an even affair, with Jon Fitton putting the ball narrowly over the bar when clean through with only the keeper to beat and then striking the post shortly after, while Hawkhurst also had chances at the other end. Hawkhurst broke the deadlock after half an hour and quickly added a second, only for Adam Gooch to reply in the 38th minute. Trailing 2-1 Icklesham were well in the game at the break, but the side never got going in the second period, conceding four further goals.

After the excellent win the previous week the 2nd team came back down to earth with a bang losing 9-0 away to Punnetts Town. The game was even for half an hour before Punnetts Town hit three quick goals to lead 3-0 at the break and continued their dominance in the second half. The side was missing a number of their more experienced players and with the Punnetts Town team being made up of many of the players who were representing their 1st team in Division Two until they withdrew earlier in the season, it’s not a result to get too despondent about.

This Saturday sees the 1st team travel to Mountfield, while the 2nd team host Hampden Park United. On Sunday the veterans take on Bexhill United at Icklesham Recreation Ground in the Hastings Veterans League with an 11 am kick off.
