There was a quality end to the first part of the season when Rye’s indoor cricketers put on another great performance and claimed victory, this time against Netherfield. Cracking start from the first over by Hammy [James Hamilton] hitting 13 off the first 4 balls, before snacking off to the 5th. That brought Joe Lovell to the crease who, along with Dan Seabrook, built up a steady score, with Seabrook batting well again and retiring on 25 in the 5th over!
In came William Wheeler, who unfortunately ran himself out on 1, but the team carried on well with Lovell retiring on 27 bringing Seabrook back to the crease who built his score up to 42 before being bowled on the last ball of the innings. Harry Smeed hitting hard and quickly at the bottom of the innings and building a quick 25 brought Lovell back to the crease to face the last few balls of the innings with Seabrook!
Rye then took to the field with Smeed and Willis proving just unplayable to the Netherfield batsmen with both returning quality bowling figures, Smeed 2 wickets for 3 runs in 3 overs and Willis returning figures of 1-5! Fielding again proved a strong point for the side, with good catches and fielding by all, including a one-handed pluck by Willis. Bowling was also supported by Lovell 11-1 and Hammy 10-0! Another cracking performance by all the boys getting another resounding win!
A good way to finish off the first part of the season. Let’s keep it going after the Christmas holiday boys.
