Rye 3rd XI team visited Pevensey 2nd XI for their second league fixture of 2016 and on winning the toss decided to field first.

Rye got off to a good start by restricting the runs but struggled to make a breakthrough against the opening batsmen of Pevensey. Pevensey continued to keep out the Rye attack as the runs increased at a slow pace, before Ross Pierce dismissed captain Chris Pedroza (41) thanks to a well held catch by Mike Grant. Once the other opener, John Lambert, was dismissed off the bowling of Mike Stoneham for 48, wickets started to fall more frequently. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Jake Lambert who finished with 20 not out. The Rye wicket takers were Mike Stoneham 3-51 and Ross Pierce 4-25, as Pevensey scored 144 from their allotted overs.

Rye got off to a steady start in response, before Paul Payton was bowled  by Lambert, having scored 13. Lambert then struck again to claim  figures of 2-21 and reduce Rye to 37-2. A partnership of 48 between Grant and Pierce steadied the innings before the former retired out having scored 29. Pierce then batted sensibly to take Rye closer to their target and eventually finished on 61 not out, seeing  Rye across the line for the loss of only 4 wickets and with 5 overs to spare. The other Pevensey wicket taker was D Trunkfield 1-7.

This Saturday the 3rd XI look to continue their winning start, as they host Lewes St Michaels 3rd XI at Icklesham.
