Rye Town Amateur Boxing Club together with 17 other clubs from around the South East, North London and Gloucester put on a show that will be remembered for the guts, heart, passion and sportsmanship shown by all the competitors.
Rye Boxing Club won 3 of their 5 bouts with wins coming from Elsie Pattenden, Alex Howes and Buster Bourne. The first bout of the evening was the only all female onw on the card between Rye’s 12-year-old Elsie Pattenden against Courtney Parker. Elsie won the bout by unanimous decision after impressing the judges with great shots to her opponent and her speed around the ring.
Next up was 15-year-old Alex Howes for Rye. He won a hard fought unanimous decision where he came close to knocking his opponent to the ground on more then one occasion. Alex’s sponsor Anthony Dicesare, owner of Quayside Cars, said it was a great bout, and a great win for an outstanding young talent. “I am proud to be associated with such a dedicated lad and also a great club,” he said.
Rye’s next bout was Ben Sanderson, aged 12, who was defeated by unanimous decision. Ben may have lost the bout but showed why he is a great prospect for the future: he has a lot of skill, guts and heart. Dan Lake, chair of the Tilling Green Residents’ Association which sponsors Ben, said: “We are so proud of how far Ben has come and we are sure his progress will continue under Carl Turner and his coaches.”
The next bout for Rye was Buster Bourne, aged 14, who showed what real potential he has. After trading blows with his opponent he won an excellent encounter by split decision.
