Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, the sponsorship of Bournes Moves, and the Rye Fund’s generous donation, the Rye Cricket Salts will be ready for pre-season practice this week. The first fixture is on Saturday, April 26 when Rye 1st XI host Staplehurst 1sts in a pre-season friendly with a 1pm start.
The ground is looking at its very best, and the square is reaping the rewards of the attention given to it last September and during the winter. Adult nets will be alongside the Under 16 nets on Friday evenings from 6pm – 8pm.
The club has been busy in securing sponsorship through the close season and will next week when the fixture cards are printed will express their thanks for the ongoing support from a number of Rye businesses.

The club is also ready on the playing side. There has been an excellent turnout at winter nets and a number of new players have been registered with the club to take on the challenge of playing in the world’s largest cricket league. The furthest travelled of the newbies is Harvey Otto who has joined from Melbourne, Australia to enjoy a summer with Rye Cricket Club. 1st XI batter Luke Payton has returned from his second winter overseas in Australia, where once again he was the league’s most successful run scorer.
The club will be running three Saturday league sides and we offer cricket at a range of challenge to suit all abilities. The juniors start outdoor practice on Wednesday, April 30 before the league season in the Ashford league commences on week commencing May 5. There will be two Under 11 sides, Under 13 and Under 16.
Softball cricket starts on Sunday, May 11. Details of this can be found here.
