The town celebrated the millennium, the year 2000, by building a wall in the shape of a boat to reflect the Spirit of Rye. Sponsored by Rother Environmental Group and the Rye Conservation Society, with a ground level plaque in place recording this, it sits on the town side of the Tillingham Bridge between the bridge and the car park behind the Kettle of Fish.
And now it belongs to the town as the land it is on has been passed from Southern Gas Networks to the Town Council. Apparently contentious when it was proposed, designed and built to celebrate 2000, transfer of the land on which it is placed has been long delayed because it was thought to be contaminated.
