Three people died on Sunday in a traffic accident on the A259, to the east of Rye. The collision, at 3:50 pm, involved a motorcycle and a black Renault Megane estate on the section of road between East Guldeford and Brookland village. The motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man from Tenterden and two occupants of the car, a 36-year-old woman from Birmingham and a 65-year-old woman from Walsall, died in the incident. Two men and a baby who were also travelling in the car were taken to hospital.

Kent Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and are seeking the occupants of a purple VW camper van seen in the area at the time of the collision. It is not thought that the camper was directly involved but the police believe the occupants could be important witnesses and they would like to hear from them. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until July 21.
