Some Vodafone customers in the Rye area have been experiencing mobile phone service disruption for several weeks now, with reports of both incoming and outgoing calls being constantly cut off, erratic signal strength and text messages sometimes taking hours or even days to be relayed. Nick Taylor, one of those affected, contacted Vodafone in Hastings, who confirmed that they had received a number of complaints from Rye residents about the problems. In a follow up email, Vodafone Customer Services announced they were aware of a network issue in the area of TN31 7UE, the site of the mast in Leasam Lane, Playden.

Rye News contacted Vodafone’s press office for further clarification and received the following statement from Corporate Communications Manager Jane Frapwell: “We’re sorry some of our customers in Rye have been inconvenienced by a loss of service locally. We are aware that a local mast has developed an intermittent fault and our engineers are currently investigating to get to the root of the problem. We are in the process of carrying out a “line of sight” survey to determine whether this is causing the problem. We’re working hard to the get the service back to normal as soon as possible.” Rye News will update this story when we hear of further developments.
