As the newly appointed Rye Town Council member on the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve Committee I wanted to learn more about the organisation so it was a great pleasure to meet the Director Dr Barry Yates recently.
I was given the opportunity, accompanied by Cllr Rebekah Gilbert, to look around the estate and understand more about the work done there, in terms of land management, the flora and fauna, and of course the many birds that the reserve attracts.
It is a great organisation with so much happening, not only for wildlife enthusiasts, but for visitors and locals alike, plus there are a number of excellent education programmes run throughout the year.
The Reserve is well supported by its Friends, but new members are always welcome. They are supporting a number of activities which will further enhance the visitor experience.
I do hope many readers will visit the site this year and see the excellent work that is going on there,
Cllr Andi Rivett
