If anyone gets a call from someone with an Indian accent purporting to be from Rye Town Council put the phone down on them immediately! The more who know about this scam will hopefully help people avoid being taken in by it. I got a call this morning on my landline from someone called “Mike” from “Rye Town Council” who wanted to discuss my accident. As I haven’t had an accident, I immediately knew it was a scam. According to the council the scammers started by targeting Lydd, then New Romney residents and now they are targeting Rye residents. Shame they haven’t done more to inform us of it! They also have no idea how the scammers have managed to get hold of our landline phone numbers.
