The Rye Museum Grotto in East Street was open as part of “Great Expectations for Christmas in Rye” and Santa was in attendance from 11am to 4pm. What a superhuman, ably assisted by Mother Christmas.
This year parents had to book a slot for their children to visit Santa instead of just queueing. There were some doubts about this beforehand, but on the day everything went smoothly.
About 350 children visited Santa and received a present – and a similar number of adults partook of tea, coffee, mulled wine and mince pies.
And by the end of the day the volunteers were tired, but happy that they had been able to bring smiles to so many little faces and spread a bit of seasonal cheer.
