Dark Horse: The Incredible True Story of Dream Alliance 86 mins [PG]  An inspirational British underdog tale, this is a triumphant celebration of a working-class Welsh community and the horse they bred for glory. In early 2000, Jan Vokes, a barmaid in the village of Cefn Fforest, somehow persuaded a syndicate of villagers to club together and buy a thoroughbred mare and the crazy notion of breeding a racing winner start to become reality. A fascinating documentary and winner of the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Festival.

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence 100 mins [12A] Subtitled.  Sam and Jonathan are two travelling salesmen peddling novelty items – mostly unsuccessfully – taking us on a trip that shows us beauty in one moment, pettiness in another and the humour and tragedy within us all. By turns tragic, absurd, meditative and hilarious, Roy Andersson’s new, award-winning film is the culmination of one of modern cinema’s greatest talents and is nothing short of a masterpiece.
