Trash and carry on

Rye residents queued at Rye Library to seek advice on the revised waste and recycling service from Rother Council, which starts on Monday June 30.

Questions were raised on what changes lay in store for the waste and recycling changes – how collections will be affected, what can be recycled, and which bins or bags it goes in. Some residents discovered that they may end up with a recycling box they no longer need. Also, locals were reminded that different changes apply to the old citadel area in Rye as bags are used instead of bins and boxes, as the questions kept on coming at the library.

Residents should each have received a letter, two calendars and a 16-page booklet to explain the changes due to take place.

However, despite detailed information being sent to all Rye residents, Rother District Council staff had many questions to answer about Rubbish Day with differences between the old and new parts of the town causing particular confusion.

Charlie Harkness reports on the changes in detail on the News index.
