Amber Rudd, Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye, attended Rye College for lunch on 23 November to mark National School Meals Week (NSMW). Amber was welcomed by  Barry Blakelock, Executive Headteacher at Rye College, and sat down with both college pupils and staff for a hot meal comprising traditional English fish and chips.

NSMW is celebrated nationwide and aims to raise awareness of the positive effects that healthy and nutritious school meals can have on school pupils. Furthermore, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Lead Association for Catering in Education NSMW. After lunch, Amber was given a tour of the college by school staff and was shown the work that is currently being carried out to improve the college’s facilities.

Commenting on her visit to Rye College, Amber remarked: “I am grateful for the kind invitation that was extended to me by Rye College. It was great to catch up with both college staff and pupils over fish and chips, and to hear how life at the college is progressing.”

Amber added: “Special thanks go to the college’s catering staff whose hard-work and dedication ensure that the best quality meals are made available to college pupils. You are a fine example to us all!”
