The new Conservative candidate in Eastern Rother, Lizzie Hacking, is bringing a message of renewal and hope to local residents, in this May’s Rother District Council elections.

Standing on a manifesto to protect our beaches, improve traffic safety and combat rural crime, Lizzie is determined, as a local resident herself who knows the area intimately, to bring drive, energy and fortitude when representing local people.

On the announcement of her candidacy, Lizzie said:  “I’m incredibly honoured to be selected as the Conservative candidate for Eastern Rother. Having been born and raised in the Rother area, I’m delighted to have the opportunity to give back to the community that’s given me so much. I will work hard to earn the vote of my neighbours and build on the work of my predecessor, Sally-Ann Hart.”

Lizzie is taking over as the Conservative candidate for Eastern Rother, as Sally-Ann Hart, the incumbent, is standing down after five years in the role, as she is now the local Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye.

And Sally-Ann steps down

After five years serving as the Rother District Councillor for Eastern Rother, Sally-Ann Hart, has taken the earliest opportunity to resign so she can focus all her efforts on representing every resident in Hastings and Rye, and allowing someone else to drive forward strong representation for Eastern Rother residents on the Council.

On the announcement of her retirement from Rother District Council, Sally-Ann said: “It has been an enormous pleasure to serve as the councillor for Eastern Rother these last five years. To have represented a place I have called home for nearly a quarter of a century on the local council was a real privilege.

“However, as the local Member of Parliament my time and focus has been serving the residents across Hastings and Rye, so it is only right that I stand down now, which is the earliest opportunity I have to do so, in order to let someone else take over at the council.

“I want to thank the residents of Eastern Rother for putting their faith in me to represent them on the council, and also deep thanks to my co-councillor, Paul Osborne, who has been a huge support and guide for me these past five years. It goes without saying that Lizzie Hacking has my full support and I hope she runs a successful campaign, and that the residents of Eastern Rother see in her, what I do, which is a local woman, full of energy, determination and ideas to make the lives of local people better.”

  1. Ms Hacking’s promise to fight rural crime as one of her stated manifesto intentions is laudable. However, according to police figures rural crime in eastern Rother is at broadly the same level now as it was a year ago, whereas requests for food parcels at Rye Food Bank have tripled over the same period. What are Ms Hacking’s plans for giving ‘something back to the community in this regard? Will she be appearing at Rye food Bank any time soon, ready to parcel up essential food items or deliver them to her needy neighbours in our locality?
