On Friday, August 11, a small crowd of people gathered outside Rye Castle to hear the town crier, Paul Goring, announce the opening of Rye Castle Museum’s Elizabeth I Rye Royale trail. Included in the group to hear the announcement were Jo Kirkham, chair of Rye Castle Museum, museum directors, staff and volunteers as well as curious passers-by who had stumbled upon Paul Goring’s announcement of the museum’s trail to commemorate the 450th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I’s visit to Rye.

An extremely informative booklet is available at both museum sites (Rye Castle and 3 East Street) giving information on the objects in the museum that Queen Elizabeth I would either have seen in the town or would have known about. Additional information is also displayed alongside the objects marked with the trail icon.
