The yearly battle!
I was sure that I stowed them away just right, but now I see that I was wrong
As I get them from the box they look, just like a screwed up, messy throng
It’s as though a naughty sprite has been rummaging about
Just to make life difficult, before I get them out
The tangled mess looks daunting, but I’m ready to do battle,
I turn them round, look for an end, give them a shake and a rattle
I wind this bit around that bit, then realise that’s not right,
I spend a good half hour doing battle, in this fight
But finally I find the way, with patience (and much swearing!)
There was a moment in the fight when the dog was almost them wearing
Every year it is the same, but as I stand with pride and admiration
To view the results of my hard work I see a wonderful creation
I know that every year I will do just this, and view with joyful glee
The lights as they twinkle triumphantly, on the Christmas tree.
