Local amateur dramatic group Acting Up In Rye is staging Arnold Bennett’s The Stepmother and Sir Arthur Wing Pinero’s The Playgoers , two one act plays, on April 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm.
The doors (and the bar) open at the Rye Community Centre at 7pm for each performance. Tickets are £7 on the door or in advance from A Pocketful of Rye, 5 High Street.
Bennett was a prodigious and celebrated novelist who died of typhoid in the 1930s and his one act farce is about a popular female novelist whose “facts” leave a lot to be desired.
Pinero, who also died in the 1930s, was an actor and prolific playwright and his one act farce is about the servant problem and introduces Rye’s own “Little Miss” Milly Jenner.
Acting Up now has a base in The Old Scout Hut by the sports centre in The Grove and has a social night monthly at 7pm every third Tuesday for interested parties and budding actors/ actresses, or contact 07766 211220 for more information.
