Large local landmarks such as Dungeness, Denge Sound Mirrors and Camber Castle feature in an exhibition of watercolours and mixed media paintings at Rye Creative Centre over Easter.
I am Lenka Medlik, a local artist with a studio at the centre and have been drawn to the often eerie presence of these enormous edifices, which also include some London landmarks.
I am also a member of the Rye Harbour Writer’s group and find writing poetry about the structures facilitates my painting and vice versa; All the Sound We Cannot Hear is a poem responding to the other-worldliness of the Denge Sound Mirrors built in the 1920s, and then the threat of war.
In contrast, the mixed-media pictures portray vividly coloured land and townscapes, both local and overseas.
The exhibition is open Good Friday, April 7- Easter Sunday, April 9 10am – 4pm at Rye Creative Centre.
