For their Christmas concert on Sunday December 4, Ryesingers present Amahl and the Night Visitors. This one act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, with libretto in English was first performed in 1951 and has since become a firm favourite, especially at Christmas time. It was said to have been inspired by this painting by Hieronymus Bosch, executed around 1485 -1500.
Ryesingers will also be performing Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and Advent carols for choir and audience. Proceeds will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Research
The concert will take place at St Mary’s church at 6:30pm, admission is £10 on the door, £5 for students.
