Amazing who you come across on a leisurely stroll on the Rye High Street when out to meet friends. It was Sunday, February 7 and sunny when I spotted an artist just outside Adams, the newsagent, creating a “masterpiece” of the latter part of the High Street, including the Rye Art Gallery.
It turned out to be Karl Terry from Wittersham who, as he told me, was inspired ten years ago by an art teacher (Chris Danyes). Karl said that painting was more a hobby than earning a living which he does through the building trade.
In the past he has exhibited in the Rye Art Gallery and still does in various galleries.
He also does commissions so if you would like more information about Karl go to his website.
Watching and chatting to Karl was a lovely interlude in my day and I rather liked the picture. Sadly for him the weather changed which meant he had to pack up but he said the painting was more or less finished and, sometimes, continuing to redo it can be detrimental. Though I have not seen him before he said that he paints quite often around Rye.
