The second of three weekends of ‘Art in the Garden’ at the Ore Place Farmhouse off The Ridge in Hastings, took place on June 17/18. It was part of the South East Open Studios event running from June 9-25, involving nearly 300 artists at nearly 150 studios.
This weekend June 24-25 is the last in the Open Studios event. For more details visit seos-art.org.
Four artists will again be exhibiting their paintings and ceramics at Ore Place from 11am to 6pm and it is well worth a visit. The farmhouse is nestled in woodland close to the oldest church in Hastings, Old St Helen’s Church. The house itself is French style with an added beamed conservatory which works very well.
Visitors were able to wander through the house to the studio and chat to the artists. The farmhouse was transformed into a gallery showing interesting paintings, drawings, prints and ceramics with lovely glazes.
One of the owners is also a landscape architect and has created a colourful garden in the front and back of the house where visitors could relax and have tea and cake. It is a very calming and beautiful place. Stephanie Fawbert is showing her works with other artists at the Rye Creative Centre in July.
