The Rye and surrounding area free Children’s Singing Club, which is embarking on
its 2nd year following the success of last year, starts once again on Monday
September 5, 4-5pm at the Rye Creative Centre. Marian Ham leads this club on
behalf of The Music Well, which is a Rye-based community interest company, who
support the mental health and well-being of people of all ages through musical
activities and therapy. (www.themusicwell.org.uk)
The children (in Years R to Year 8) enjoy singing a range of songs together – we sing
in unison, in harmony and include the opportunity for solos too. This club has
certainly boosted children’s confidence, musical ability and enjoyment of singing this
past year. New friends have been made too – with the younger and older children
supporting each other and singing together incredibly well. The children performed at three events this past year, which were truly, wonderful occasions.
This FREE club is open to all children in Rye and the surrounding areas – it is a fully
inclusive club. Parents/Carers are warmly welcome to stay in the club with us, to
drop off their child and return at 5pm (or earlier), or to stay on site, nearby, outside
the room!
There is ample free parking at the Rye Creative Centre. Marian is a local semi retired Headteacher, (from Sedlescombe CE Primary School), living in Playden; she teaches singing and piano locally in Hurst Green CE Primary School, and Frewen College in Northiam as well as privately at home.
Both schools would be pleased to speak with you about her if you wish to phone
them. (Hurst Green: Miss Flack (Head Teacher) on 01580 860375; and Frewen
College, Mrs Hurford-Jones (Music Leader) on 01797 253494.)
