A visit to Lamb House this December will take you into the world of EF Benson’s Mapp and Lucia (see We wish you a Mappy Christmas) with the house dressed for a 1930s Christmas.
As well as enjoying the rooms decked out with festive decorations, and signs of frivolity and good living, there are some fun activities to take you into the world of Mallards and Tilling.
On Saturday afternoons there are readings from Mapp and Lucia novels that inspired the Lamb House display, on December 7 and December 14 between noon and 3pm
In one instance in the rivalry between the two women, Miss Mapp tries to find the hidden recipe of Lucia’s “Lobster a la Riseholme” and on sneaking into the kitchen at Lucia’s house to try to find it, is swept away in a flood, on a table. Inspired by this story there is a Lucia’s Lobster Trail for children and adults alike. Around the house are hidden 10 lobsters and clues to solve to find the location of the jealously sought-after recipe.
Tilling Art Society are exhibiting their “daubs” in the breakfast room featuring scenes from Tilling. Visitors will be able to create their own masterpiece to add to the exhibition and can vote for their favourite artwork on display with the winner announced on December 7.
Christmas at Lamb House is open until December 22, every day excluding Thursdays from 11am to 4pm, last entry 3:30pm.
