As the 52nd annual Rye Arts festival reaches the end of its first week, there are plenty more amazing events to come and enjoy. And while stand out performers performers so far have included a Canadian actress who flew in from New York and a Lithuanian pianist, in the coming week we provide a showcase for many of our talented locals.

On Sunday, September 24 at 7:30pm in St Mary’s Church, former Rye mayor Mike Boyd, who operates from the former EH Chandler shop in Landgate, will give a pianola concert. You will hear everything from Fats Waller to Stravinsky in a wonderful programme which has been put together by Mike, who enjoys an international reputation as a pianola restorer.

The next day, on Monday, September 25 at the Kino, Oliver Brooks will introduce a special 90th anniversary screening of King Kong. What Oliver doesn’t know about the legendary beast would occupy half a sheet of A5, and his enthusiasm his enthusiastic. So come along to educated and, most importantly, be informed!

On Wednesday 27 fellow Rye resident Miriam McGuirk will be at the Mermaid to talk about her novel, Second Chances, with Rye News reporter and Ryecast impresario, James Stewart, about her life. Miriam’s story, in so many ways, is inspirational.

And on Thursday, September 28, Pat Argar is back at the festival talking about Writers of the The Marsh (1940s and 1950s). This is the third part in a series, but also a stand-alone, in which Pat explores all those authors who have lived in or been inspired by Rye and Romney Marsh, and in this talk Sheila Kaye-Smith, Monica Edwards, Malcolm Saville, Rosemary Sutcliffe and Ian Fleming feature. Come along for a talk that starts at 3pm in the recently and beautifully restored Georgian ballroom at The George in Rye High Street.
