Film Club’s musical movie

The latest community film showing will be on Friday August 4, An American in Paris  (1951 – 113 minutes)

When Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly), a struggling artist living in Paris is “discovered” by a wealthy heiress, she has more than just an interest in his art. Meanwhile Jerry falls for the beautiful Lise (Leslie Caron), who is, unfortunately for him, already romantically engaged with Henri (Georges Guetary), a night club singer.

With Jerry’s best friend played by the wise-cracking concert pianist Oscar Levant, the film sparkles with George Gershwin’s wonderful music and of course Gene Kelly’s supreme artistry on the dance floor. One of the finest MGM musicals ever made and in Technicolor on the big screen, what more could one want?
