The Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival takes place this week, July 1 through July 4. In addition to concerts in Peasmarsh and Rye, we will be presenting two concerts in stunning Winchelsea – in the beautiful church of St Thomas, with its famous stained glass windows and scintillating acoustics. With these additional concerts, and some repeated performances, even with reduced capacities everyone can still be accommodated in socially distanced seats without missing any music. There are a few tickets left for 8:30pm on Saturday and 4:30pm and 7pm on Sunday (all in Peasmarsh).
As always, we have a wonderful roster of guest artists: we are very fortunate that Katya Apekisheva, co-director of the London Piano Festival – who we’d hoped to see last year in Peasmarsh – is able to join us, and we are delighted to welcome back old friends of the festival the Navarra String Quartet and double bassist Graham Mitchell.
New to Peasmarsh is former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Young Artist, and modern, classical and baroque horn specialist, Alec Frank-Gemmill. Additionally, we are thrilled to welcome to the Peasmarsh – and Winchelsea and Rye – stages, the award winning Barbican String Quartet, who we hope will also be working with Sam Glazer in our partner primary schools during the summer term.
On Friday evening, our guests will take to the stage as a wonderful ensemble of ‘Peasmarsh Virtuosi’, joining Anthony Marwood and Richard Lester for the concerto concert in Rye
Festival chairman Simon Mortimore added: “After being deprived of the pleasure of attending live concerts for so long, it will be wonderful to listen to world-class chamber musicians performing in the magical settings of the Peasmarsh, Rye and Winchelsea churches.“
