To celebrate the launch of the Rye Society of Artists’ (RSA) new website, Rye News continues to profile one of their artists each week – including links to their website and social media accounts so you can keep up-to-date on their activities.
You will also be able to view some of the RSA member’s work at their 70th Anniversary Summer Show later in 2021, date to be confirmed.
This week, the artist in focus is Davida Smith
Davida gained a degree in Fine Art at Central St Martins, London, followed by Postgraduate Printmaking. Her personal tutor was Norman Ackroyd and he introduced Davida to the wonders and possibilities of etching and aquatinting.
On moving to Sussex she began absorbing the landscape and seascape into the work – and these continue to be primary interests. The work involves the reduction and simplification of aspects of the environment through the medium of printmaking. Davida continues to work in etching and uses other printmaking techniques, producing limited edition prints.
All works are hand finished etchings.
You can see more of Davida’s work on the RSA website
